Located on the eastern plains of Colorado on I-70 near the Kansas border,
this quiet, unpretentious county is thriving with many new businesses
opening and new residents coming in. The chaos and confusion of our metropolitan
areas are not present here. This small prosperous community and its immediate
surrounding areas offer tranquility and fresh air.
The eastern plains offer magnificent sunrises and sunsets, and at night the moon and stars only add to the enchantment of the plains. With the abundance of wildlife here the cry of the coyote, or the sighting of a herd of antelope is a common pleasure.
Burlington is located 150 miles east of Denver and is the county seat of Kit Carson County, the court house and the hospital reside here. A modern government facility houses FSA, SCS and FmHA armed with a very knowledgeable staff ready to assist in any way possible. There are 14 churches, 3 schools, 1 preschool and Morgan Community College offers a wide variety of college courses. Bonny State Park is situated just 20 miles north of Burlington and offers excellent hiking, hunting, camping, and the large manmade lake provides unlimited hours of fishing and water sports. There are extensive opportunities for sports enthusiasts of all types.
The county fairgrounds in Burlington house the famous Kit Carson County Carousel (shown at left) which, with forty-six hand-carved animals, is the only antique carousel in America still having original paint on both the scenery panels as well as the animals.
